Technology has come a long way even in the years since my four year old was born. With a new baby coming in August, and a busy preschooler and toddler all over our house, I was really excited for the opportunity to review the Motorola MBP854 Connect digital video baby monitor. It’s important to look at reviews before you buy baby gear and I like reading them from https://honestbob.co.uk/best-baby-monitors/ so I can get the pros and cons from other parents!

This baby monitor is packed with awesome features and it is incredibly easy to set up. (And I am not especially great with technology otherwise.) It comes with a camera unit that goes in the baby/child’s room and a parent unit, plus the chargers you need for them. Once the parent unit charged for 16 hours (it comes with everything you need to charge it), I plugged the camera in and turned it on and was able to set up the basics of the monitor without even looking at the manual.

The parent unit display is 4.3 inches diagonally and provides daytime full color viewing or nighttime viewing in a dark room with infrared cameras. I was really impressed with the black and white viewing quality from the infrared cameras of our sleeping two year old in his dark room. Press the arrows on the parent control unit to make the camera pan left and right or up and down to get a good view from around the room. (This will be an excellent feature to check on my 2 yo and 4 yo when they are quietly playing in their room together without me having to run in and see what they are doing when I am busy with a newborn.) To preserve the battery charge, you can also turn on just the speakers/sound and turn off the video from the parent control unit. You can have up to 4 cameras (available to buy separately from Motorola) to the monitor to allow you to see in multiple rooms. You can add a memory card to the parent unit to record video from the camera. And of course, thanks to the WiFi connect features of this monitor, you can put the free Motorola Hubble app on your Android phone or iPhone or tablet, and connect to the camera of the baby monitor from WiFi to check on your baby or home when you are away. (It is easy to keep the WiFi viewing secure by using passwords.)

There are a lot more amazing features from the parent unit control. The display tells you the date and time and allows you to set up an alarm. It also shows you the current temperature of the room and allows you to set an alarm for it being too hot or cold. You can also use the parent control to play a lullaby (with 5 choices) to your baby from the camera unit, or use the microphone to even talk to them. (Again, I can imagine this will be incredibly useful to tell my 4 yo and 2 yo to stop doing something while I’m busy feeding the baby.)

The camera unit and parent unit are just the right sizes. The camera is small and discreet and can easily set on a dresser without taking up a lot of space or becoming an obvious target for my kids to mess with. The parent control unit is about the size of a thin cell phone, easy to carry around, and it has a metal stand that folds out to allow you to prop it up if you want to set it on a table.

I love how many features the Motorola MBP854 Connect Digital Video Baby Monitor has and how easy it is to set up and use. It is extremely high quality and works very well. I am really excited to use it with our new baby in August!
